OIFA stands for Odawara International Friendship Association. It was established in November 1981 on the occasion of the sister city partnership between Odawara City, Japan and Chula Vista City in California, USA.
These two cities have grown their relationship due to their many similarities in climate, agriculture, and economies. OIFA has also been organizing exchange programs for youth and city representatives for many years. Recently, we have expanded our activities to include symposiums and international events.
A MESSAGE
Facing an unprecedented situation of the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, our association was forced to suspend the "Overseas Sister City Youth Exchange Project" for the fiscal year 4 of Reiwa, following the suspension in the previous two years. On the other hand, regarding the "40th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony of Overseas Sister City Partnership," although we couldn't visit the sites in person, we have been trying new approaches such as hosting it online, connecting Chula Vista City and Odawara City for the first time.
While no one knows how the situation of the infection will evolve in the future, we will shift our focus towards enjoying the environment we are placed in by using our wisdom and creativity.
Up until now, our association has been supported by many, including our members, and has continued activities to deepen mutual understanding and friendship with people from various countries, including Chula Vista City. Through this pandemic, we have once again realized the importance of mutual understanding and friendship. We aim to further invigorate our activities and contribute to the internationalization of Odawara City and its surrounding areas.
To achieve this, we hope to increase awareness of our association among more people and welcome those who can participate in our activities. We sincerely ask for your continued support.
